Kenneth Hersh: Managing Partner - Natural Gas Partners
Ken Hersh, 45, is the Chief Executive Officer of NGP Energy Capital Management, the premier investment franchise in the energy industry. Founded in 1988, the NGP platform aggregates approximately $9.3 billion of committed capital and is comprised of Natural Gas Partners, NGP Capital Resources Company, NGP Energy Technology Partners and NGP Midstream & Resources. Mr. Hersh is responsible for directing the strategic and investment activities of the firm. He serves as a Managing Partner of Natural Gas Partners and Chairman of the Board of NGPC. In addition, he chairs the Investment Committees of NGP Energy Technology Partners and NGP Midstream & Resources, L.P.
Under his leadership, NGP has invested over $3.7 billion in over 130 energy companies located throughout North America and Europe. In addition, the firm has been the catalyst for some of the larger recapitalizations and merger transactions in the independent oil and gas sectors. In total, NGP has been a leader in structuring and negotiating transactions totaling over $20 billion.
Mr. Hersh currently serves as a director of Energy Transfer Partners, Energy Transfer Equity, Eagle Rock Energy Partners and NGPC as well as numerous private companies. Previously he has served as a director of numerous public companies, including, among others, HS Resources, Pioneer Natural Resources, Prize Energy, Titan Exploration and Encore Acquisition Company. In addition, he currently serves on the Advisory Council of The Bendheim Center for Finance at Princeton University and previously served as a member of the Management Board of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He is a frequent lecturer at industry functions covering topics relating to the energy, corporate finance and private equity sectors.
Prior to his involvement with NGP which began in 1989, he was employed by the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley & Company where he was a member of that firm’s Energy Group specializing in oil and gas financing and merger and acquisition transactions.
Mr. Hersh was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Princeton University where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in Politics in 1985. In 1989, Mr. Hersh earned his MBA degree from Stanford University where he was awarded the distinction of an Arjay Miller Scholar.
Mr. Hersh and his wife, Julie, have two children and reside in Dallas, Texas where they serve on several educational and civic boards of directors.
