DETAILED AGENDA*
9:00 Investor Outlook
To kick off the conference, Luca Salvato, a senior executive at the global secondaries firm Coller Capital, will discuss the results from Coller Capital’s Global Private Equity Barometer—a twice-yearly survey of private equity investors across the globe. The Barometer sheds light on a number of topical issues including LPs’ changing appetite for private equity, the shift in the balance of power between LPs and GPs, LPs’ returns and distributions, and the likely impact of changes in taxation/regulation on private equity in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Luca Salvato, Principal, Coller Capital
9:15 Keynote Address I: Kenneth Hersh
An inimitable speaker, Kenneth Hersh returns to Buyouts Texas this year to discuss trends in energy investing. Mr. Hersh, 45, is the Chief Executive Officer of NGP Energy Capital Management, a platform which aggregates approximately $9.3 billion of committed capital. Under his leadership, NGP has invested over $3.7 billion in over 130 energy companies located throughout North America and Europe. Ken will give a talk followed by Q&A.

9:45 Panel 1: Fundraising Now
Don’t mess with Texas….LPs. Some of the most sophisticated and deep pocketed investors in the country hail from the Lone Star state. In this session we’ll tackle an array of issues, geared toward the fundraising GP: Where’s the pendulum on terms and conditions? Which kinds of funds are getting raised? Are sellers finding buyers on the secondary market? At what price? How about the prospects for first time finds? A good mix of LPs from near and far will discuss fundraising in the balance of the year and into the beginning of 2010.
Tripp Brower, Managing Partner, Capstone Partners
Colin McGrady, Managing Director, Cogent Partners
Kent Muckel, Chief Investment Officer, Baylor University
Bill Quinn, Chairman, American Beacon Advisors
Garth Troxell, Partner, Altius Associates
Moderator: Mark Cecil, Contributing Editor, Buyouts Magazine
10:30 Coffee Break
10:45 Panel 2: Debt Markets
After an unprecedented freeze out in 2008, in 2009 LBO players are slowly finding that, on the strictest terms, capital flows have thawed and the best deals can in fact get financed. The question now is, where is the debt coming from? On what terms? Are mezz players still enjoying a favorable market? Are hedge funds still buying in? What about PE firms buying back their own debt? Regional and alternative sources of financing speak here about new ways that debt is being provided.
Eric Hansen, Managing Director, GE Antares Capital
Kevin O'Brien, Managing Director, CCMP Capital
Troy Oder, Principal, Golub Capital
Devon Russell, Senior Managing Director, Madison Capital Funding

11:30 Panel 3: Energy Dealmaking
This outstanding panel discusses opportunities in oil and gas deals, as well as energy manufacturing and services transactions. Other topics include a dive into how the Obama administration’s cleantech billions impact the energy PE markets, and how the likelihood of a carbon tax or cap and trade regime will impact deals. Hear from Secretary Donald Evans, Secretary Of Commerce under President George W. Bush, as well as three other sterling names from the energy PE space.
