Mark E. Toney, Managing Principal and Practice Co-Leader, Corporate Advisory and Restructuring Services, Grant Thornton LLP

With significant experience in operations, corporate planning and restructuring, Mr. Toney is adept at organizational leadership, operational reorganizations, financial restructurings and change management. He has considerable experience in building and reorganizing management teams. Mr. Toney’s background includes hands-on experience in a diverse range of industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and food processing. He has significant experience in management re-alignments, re-engineering and process improvement.

Mr. Toney has served as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer for several clients on an interim or crisis basis as well as serving as an advisor to clients on a multitude of issues such as:

  • Developing strategic business plans
  • Establishing budgeting and forecasting tools for operations and cash management
  • Negotiating and structuring new and existing financing
  • Re-engineering operating functions
  • Creating and implementing cost reduction plans
  • Building and re-aligning management teams

Negotiating the acquisition and divestiture of businesses and operating divisions and/or product lines

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, LLP, Mr. Toney was a Managing Director at AlixPartners, LLP, an international turnaround and consulting firm and a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers. In addition, he was a Principal in a boutique turnaround consulting firm as well as Vice President of an investment banking and capital investment firm.

Mr. Toney holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Turnaround Management Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He has served on Boards for for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
